The KonMari Method will not just transform your space. Once you have your house in order, you will find that your whole life will change. You can feel more confident, you can become more successful, and you can have the energy and motivation to create the life you want. Marie Kondo’s method is based on a ‘once cleaned, never messy again’ approach. If you think that such a thing is impossible, then you should definitely listen to this compelling audiobook.

About Marie Kondo (Wikipedia)

Marie Kondo (近藤 麻理恵, Kondō Marie, pronounced [kondoː maɾie], born 9 October 1984[1]), also known as Konmari[2] (こんまり), is a Japanese organizing consultant, author, and TV presenter.[3]

Kondo has written four books on organizing, which have collectively sold millions of copies around the world. Her books have been translated from Japanese into several languages and her book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up (2011) has been published in more than 30 countries.[4] It was a best-seller in Japan and in Europe, and was published in the United States in 2014.[3]

In the United States and the United Kingdom, the profile of Kondo and her methods were greatly promoted by the success of the Netflix series Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, released in 2019, which gained Kondo a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program.[5][6] In August 2021, Netflix released a follow-up show, Sparking Joy with Marie Kondo. She was listed as one of Time‘s “100 most influential people” in 2015.[7]

WE SPEAK TO: Jace Tan

Doctor Jace Tan is the founder of Tan Chiro – a leading chiropractor in north Brisbane

Sometimes we interview founders of multinational companies, and sometimes we interview solopreneurs or people who are not necessarily global but are still killing it in business nonetheless. I think we can definitely learn from both.

So if you’re at a standstill in life at the moment and are looking for some kind of inspiration of what to do, or if you’re looking for tips on how to start and operate a growing brick-and-mortar business – this episode will be useful for you.

Today we’re interviewing a dear friend of mine who decided to leave the rat race to do her own thing. But her journey to get there wasn’t the easiest and it wasn’t necessarily the most linear. And based on our chats in the past, her taking time off to travel around the world had a lot to do with her successes today.

She was going to do medicine like a good Asian daughter, but when she did an internship at Gleneagles in KL, she had this nagging feeling that ‘surely there’s something else she could help people with before their health deteriorated to this level’ and went into chiro instead.

After her travels, she worked as an associate in a number of practices around Brisbane before finally deciding to go and do her own thing.

Starting from a small space north of Brisbane, she’s had to quickly upgrade to a much bigger location and now has a small team helping her with this immense growth – all within a year. She also has a long list of loyal clients, which is a great indicator of the quality of what she offers.

How to Sell Your Business (or Make it Sellable) – Quick Book Review Summary of Built to Sell by John Warrillow

In this special book review episode, we do a quick summary of the book Built to Sell by John Warrilow and discuss how you can implement the tips from the book in your own business.

Buy the paperback from Amazon.

Check out our Books Section for more books recommended by our guests.

About Built to Sell:

Run your company. Don’t let it run you.

Most business owners started their company because they wanted more freedom—to work on their own schedules, make the kind of money they deserve, and eventually retire on the fruits of their labor.

Unfortunately, according to John Warrillow, most owners find that stepping out of the picture is extremely difficult because their business relies too heavily on their personal involvement. Without them, their company—no matter how big or profitable—is essentially worthless.

But the good news is that entrepreneurs can take specific steps—no matter what stage a business is in—to create a valuable, sellable company. Warrillow shows exactly what it takes to create a solid business that can thrive long into the future.

About John Warrillow

Aussies Changing the Entire Snowboarding Industry – Robert Joseph, Anti Ordinary

We hope you enjoy our entrepreneur podcast! To help us grow, please subscribe to our podcast and follow us on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and/or LinkedIn. It’s the best way we can keep bringing in quality guests.

Welcome to Business Over Drinks, one of the most unique podcasts you will find anywhere in the world helmed by two people from different walks of life.

The podcast is an extension of their real-life experiences as business owners, salaried employees and industry mavericks who made mistakes along the way and lived to talk about it.

WE SPEAK TO: Robert Joseph

Rob is a Queensland born and bred startup founder. Spending most of his younger years playing any sport he could get his hands on, he found his own path in action sports. Initially, dirt bikes, moving on to mountain bikes and then a stint competing at cable wakeboarding, he found his true sporting love of snowboarding late in life at age 17.

When not chasing adrenaline, he’d spend most of his time tinkering. After school, he started an undergrad in Medical Engineering, with the hope to combine his love of sport and engineering into some form of career. Originally eyeing off prosthetics for sport, his attention turned to brain protection after experiencing first-hand the pain points of brain protection in action sports. After a look around, he realised there wasn’t really anything interesting or progressive happening in brain protection, so he teamed up with his co-founder Brodie to change the way we protect brains across all categories, starting in the unlikely market of Snowsports.

Rob is the co-founder of Anti-Ordinary. A company that is aiming to revolutionise snow sports, starting with super protective headgear with the twist of it looking exactly like a beanie. But we’ll find out more about that soon.

WE SPEAK TO: Simon Chap

We’ll be speaking about questions many if not all people are faced with at some point in their lives: what should I do next, and how do I know I’m making the right choices?

To help us answer this question we’re speaking to a good friend, Simon Chap. Simon, at first, took the usual Asian Australian route – went to uni, got a corporate job. But then he went on to continue his family business and run Isla House. He’s also undertaking a few super easy projects such as building a hotel, as well as two townhouse development projects.

In between all this, he works as a film and commercial extra, is doing an MBA and has the biggest forearms we’ve seen on an Asian man to date.

THIS EPISODE

This episode we’re talking about something that’s been bothering a lot of us lately. That is, the topic of Facebook and Google vs the government and major news outlets. If you haven’t heard lately, there was a standoff between Google and the Australian government (to which Google seems to have eventually backed down), followed by Facebook and the Australian government, to which Facebook didn’t back down, but then sort of did after a while? Are you confused yet? What does this mean, and especially, what does this mean for you guys not only in Australia, but who are listening from around the world?

We speak to Mathew Ingram to discuss these issues.

Other topics discussed include

  • Who’s behind these new regulations popping up everywhere
  • Are news organisations complaining about platforms that give them most of their web traffic?
  • Clubhouse, is it really as stupid as it seems
  • Mathew’s latest article
  • Closed versus open internet

Mathew Ingram is an award-winning journalist who has spent the past two decades writing about business, technology and new media as well as advising media companies on digital strategy. He is currently the chief digital writer for the Columbia Journalism Review, and prior to that he was a senior writer with Fortune magazine, where he wrote about the evolution of media and the Internet. Before joining Fortune, he held a similar position at Gigaom, a leading technology blog network.

He then released his own range of high quality boxing and fitness apparel, and then co-started Dundee’s Fit Education, a fitness education institute offering PT courses

He’s trained countless Olympians and high ranking athletes and fitness models, most notably Jeff Horn. Jeff Horn is an Australian boxing icon who won against Manny Pacquiao in the Battle of Brisbane. He was personally awarded with the World Champion Strength and Conditioning Coach by the Lord Mayor himself.

Building one of the Largest TEDx Conferences in the World – Daniel Cerventus Lim

This episode we speak to Daniel Cerventus Lim

Daniel has been an avid practitioner in technology and business for more than 20 years now. Having initiated his first technology related startup since tertiary years was a demonstration of relentless taking the challenge to the next level even at a tender age. The ambition only grew bigger when the startup was then invested by Multimedia University Malaysia (MMU).

Through the growing years, he has worked on various mid to large sized projects ranging from the Ministry of Youth and Sport’s projects (Rakan Muda) to consulting several companies in digital marketing and e-commerce space before embarking on building an education portal. The venture took shape along the years and through keen eyes on latest trends, pivoted into an education tourism company that facilitates middle eastern students to Malaysia in tandem with aims of Ministry of Tourism of Malaysia in bringing in foreign investment. Daniel soon exited this company and moved on with many other great interests.

Upon exiting, Daniel pursued various community driven and entrepreneurial projects in Malaysia such as Barcamp and Startup Camp to help to grow the startups and developers ecosystem in Malaysia. Through his experience, he then founded Entrepreneurs.my and soon became one of Malaysia’s leading resource for entrepreneurial content around Malaysia and neighbours Singapore and Indonesia. Entrepreneurs.my grew in online traction and seeing the interest from Asian countries, it has been rebranded to NextUp.Asia.

Daniel has also served as advisor, mentor and board of director of numerous entrepreneurs’ organization around Malaysia and South East Asia. Daniel is also the founding curator of TEDxKL – one the largest TEDx events in the world.
